Roadtrip 2022 Spring: Seaside - Bend - Boise - Park City - Grand Junction - Park City - Boise - Richland

Day 14 - Bessie Butte

Our resident deer drops by to check out what's for lunch.

In this part of the world, researchers are figuring out how to make trees hold up clouds.

The lower portion of the "Bessie Trail" features gradual climbing and very thick interesting foliage.

Almost could be mistaken for window frost patterns.

Up and up the trail goes.

We are surrounded by volcanoes. It's not obvious until you get up here.

Bessie Butte is very sparsely treed. In fact there is evidence of fire damage - and some newly planted replacements struggle to find a foothold.

This is Darrell, guardian of the upper reaches.

An old snag rests comfortably in an open scrape at the top of Bessie.

The Cascades are prominent through the lightly treed landscape.

Russ cautiously looks right then left. His Dad always told him how vital this skill is. Dad was very smart.
